Resumo Os povos originários, na Amazônia brasileira, em muito têm contribuído com a domesticação de inúmeras espécies vegetais atualmente utilizadas. Todavia, esses povos enfrentam limitações legais para comercializar seus produtos florestais produzidos de forma sustentável. Nesse aspecto, o estudo teve como objetivo evidenciar a estrutura demográfica de Schizolobium parahybavaramazonicum(Huber ex Ducke) Barneby, em dois sítios, de condução da regeneração natural em área agricultável (policultivo) realizado por indígenas e floresta nativa, a fim de gerar indicadores para nortear a discussão acerca dos aspectos legais da silvicultura de condução de regeneração natural em terras indígenas, na Amazônia brasileira. Para a realização do estudo, foram amostrados três ambientes de ocorrência da referida espécie: florestas em estágios clímax conservada, floresta alterada e área de agricultura com a condução da regeneração natural da espécie, conduzido pelos povos originários. O resultado da pesquisa constatou que na floresta clímax e alterada a espécie tem densidade populacional reduzida em função de seu caráter ecológico, por ser heliófila. Quanto ao ambiente de condução da regeneração natural, a mesma espécie apresentou diferenciação estrutural dos demais ambientes, demonstrando o efeito da prática silvicultural da condução da regeneração, na forma de policultivo, associada a outras espécies agrícolas. Abstract Indigenous peoples, in the Brazilian Amazon, have contributed a lot to the domestication of countless plant species used by the contemporary population as a whole. However, these peoples currently face legal limitations to market their forest products produced in a sustainable manner. In this regard, the study aimed to show the population structure of Schizolobium parahyba var amazonicum (Huber ex Ducke) Barneby, in environments conducive to natural regeneration and native forest. The species is used in the laminate industry in the region. The research also aims to contribute to the generation of indicators for discussion about the legal aspects of forestry to conduct natural regeneration in indigenous lands, in the Brazilian Amazon. To conduct the study, three environments of occurrence of the referred species were sampled: forests in climax and altered, and area under natural regeneration of the species, conducted by the original peoples, both environments located in the Amazon biome. The result of the study found that in the climax and altered forest the species has its population reduced due to its ecological character, since it is heliophile. Regarding the environment under natural regeneration, the same species showed structural differentiation from the other environments, demonstrating the effect of the forestry practice of conducting regeneration, in the form of polyculture, associated with other agricultural species. RESUMO Os sistemas agroflorestais (SAFs) integram, com práticas sustentáveis, culturas agrícolas e florestais para produção de madeira e alimentos, conservando os serviços ambientais e a biodiversidade. O freijó, Cordia goeldiana, tem potencial para cultivo na Amazônia para fins madeireiros, porém dados sobre as características de sua madeira em SAFs são escassas. Objetivou-se determinar as propriedades físico-mecânicas e aplicações tecnológicas da madeira de freijó produzida em um SAF multiestratificado estabelecido no estado de Rondônia, Brasil em 1996. No SAF, as espécies agrícolas e madeireiras foram estabelecidas em renques duplos no espaçamento 5,0 m x 2,5 m. Abateram-se três árvores de freijó com 19 anos de idade, para caracterização química, física (densidade e estabilidade dimensional) e mecânica (compressão, flexão estática, dureza Janka e cisalhamento) da madeira. A madeira de freijó apresentou composição química similar à de madeiras nobres tropicais, peso moderado (582,63 kg m-3) e estabilidade dimensional elevada em comparação com outras madeiras consagradas no mercado (retração longitudinal, radial e tangencial = 0,25, 4,27 e 6,83%, respectivamente). Os valores de resistência à compressão paralela (32,32 MPa) e perpendicular (8.02 MPa), resistência específica (55,32 MPa kg-1 m-3), dureza Janka paralela (2373,33 N) e perpendicular (2326,67 N), resistência à flexão estática (63,5 MPa) e ao cisalhamento (5,94 MPa) foram semelhantes aos valores observados em outras madeiras tropicais de alta densidade, produzidas em monocultivo e florestas naturais. A madeira em estudo é adequada para fabricação de produtos de alto valor agregado, como móveis finos, pisos residenciais, instrumentos musicais e peças estruturais.

ABSTRACT Agroforestry systems (AFSs) integrate, through sustainable practices, agricultural and forest crops for the production of wood and food, providing environmental services, and conserving biodiversity. The freijó (Cordia goeldiana) has potential for cultivation in the Amazon for timber purposes, but data on the characteristics of its wood produced in AFSs are scarce. Our objective was to determine the physical-mechanical properties and suggest technological applications of freijó wood produced in a multi-stratified AFS established in the state of Rondônia, Brazil in 1996. Agricultural and forest species were established in the AFS in double rows with 5.0-m x 2.5-m spacing. Three 19-year-old freijó trees were harvested for chemical, physical (density and dimensional stability), and mechanical (compression, static bending, Janka hardness, and shear strength) characterization of the wood. The wood presented a chemical composition similar to tropical hardwoods, was moderately heavy (582.63 kg m-3), and had high dimensional stability in comparison with other consecrated woods on the market (longitudinal, radial, and tangential retraction = 0.25, 4.27, and 6.83%, respectively). The values determined for parallel (32.32 MPa) and perpendicular compression (8.02 MPa), specific strength (55.32 MPa kg-1 m-3), parallel (2373.33 N) and perpendicular Janka hardness (2326.67 N), strength to static bending (63.5 MPa), and shear (5.94 MPa) were similar to the values observed in other high-density tropical woods grown in either monoculture plantations or natural forests. The wood under study is suitable for manufacture of high-value-added products, such as fine furniture, residential floors, musical instruments and structural pieces.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a dinâmica da chuva de sementes em dois agrupamentos florísticos formados em um remanescente de Floresta Estacional Subtropical. Os agrupamentos foram caracterizados pelo estágio sucessional da floresta, denominados de grupo I (Floresta Secundária em Estágio Médio - FSEM), com predomínio de espécies secundárias iniciais; e o grupo II (Floresta Secundária em Estágio Avançado - FSEA), com predomínio de espécies secundárias tardias. A chuva de sementes (CS) foi avaliada em 70 coletores de 1 m², distribuídos de forma aleatória nos dois agrupamentos, sendo que no grupo I foram instalados 15 coletores e no grupo II, por apresentar maior área, 55 coletores. O material depositado foi coletado mensalmente, no período de outubro de 2008 a outubro de 2010. A dinâmica da CS foi avaliada pela densidade de sementes de cada espécie, síndrome de dispersão e sazonalidade da produção. Utilizou-se o teste não paramétrico da Soma das Ordens de Wilcoxon (W) para verificar diferenças estatísticas nas médias de densidade de sementes em cada ano de avaliação para cada trecho de floresta. A chuva de sementes do remanescente estudado, durante os três anos de estudo, foi representada por 114 espécies e a maior produção de sementes ocorreu em 2008 (1632 sem.m-² no grupo I e 1270 sem.m-² no grupo II), principalmente devido à ocorrência da alta produção de Chusquea ramosissima Lindm., Dasyphyllum spinescens (Less.) Cabrera, Vernonanthura discolor (Spreng.) H.Rob. Somente no segundo ano (2009) observaram-se diferenças estatísticas nas médias de densidade entre os dois grupos analisados (FSEM=565,6 sem.m-2 e FSEA=274 sem.m-2; Z tabelado =1,96 e W FSEM x FSEA = 2,248). As espécies zoocóricas predominaram na área de estudo, e os períodos de maior produção de sementes foram o inverno e a primavera. A CS mostrou-se importante mecanismo de regeneração natural para o remanescente de floresta, sendo afetado pelas condições climáticas e estágio sucessional da floresta.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the dynamics of the seed rain in two Floristic groups formed in a remnant of Subtropical Seasonal Forest. The clusters were characterized by successional stage of the forest, namely group I (Secondary Forest in Intermediate Stage-FSEM), with a predominance of early secondary species, and group II (Secondary Forest in Advanced Stage-FSEA), with a predominance of late secondary species. Seed rain was evaluated in 70 collectors of 1 m², randomly distributed in the two groups, whereas in group I were installed 15 collectors and in group II, due to its greater area, 55 collectors. The deposited material was collected monthly from October 2008 to October 2010. The dynamics of seed rain was assessed by the density of seeds of each species of dispersal and seasonal production. We used the nonparametric Test of Wilcoxon Sum of Orders (W) to determine statistical differences in the mean density of seeds in each year of assessment for each patch of forest. Seed rain in the remaining studied during three years of study, was represented by 114 species and higher seed production occurred in 2008 (1632-seeds.m-2 in group I and 1270-seeds.m-2 in group II), mainly due to the occurrence of high production Chusquea ramosissima Lindm., Dasyphyllum spinescens (Less.) Cabrera, Vernonanthura discolor (Spreng.) H.Rob. RESUMO O objetivo desse estudo foi analisar a presença de agrupamentos na vegetação de um remanescente de Floresta Estacional Decidual, caracterizado como um enclave côncavo, em terreno com declividade acentuada e solo arenoso, entre campos característicos da região. As espécies arbóreas e arbustivas com CAP (circunferência a altura de 1,3 m do solo) ≥ 15 cm foram amostradas em duas classes de tamanho. Na amostragem dos indivíduos da Classe I (CAP ≥ 30 cm) foram utilizadas 14 parcelas de 20 x 100 m, divididas em subparcelas (10 x 10 m). Os indivíduos da Classe II (15 ≤ CAP < 30 cm) foram observados em 70 subparcelas. Para análise de agrupamentos foi utilizado o programa TWINSPAN, que indicou dois grupos (G1 e G2) bem definidos na Classe I e um grupo relativamente homogêneo na Classe II (sub-bosque). No grupo G1 ocorreram as espécies indicadoras Trichilia claussenii, Cupania vernalise Crysophyllum marginatum; e no grupo G2Luehea divaricata e Sebastiania commersoniana. Em relação à estrutura horizontal, essas espécies estiveram entre as três mais importantes nos respectivos grupos. No sub-bosque, as espécies com maior valor de importância foram Actinostemon concolor, Trichilia claussenii, Trichilia elegans, Eugenia rostrifolia eSorocea bonplandii. Essas espécies, por predominarem na vegetação arbórea, apresentam papel fundamental na estabilização de encostas, considerando que estão adaptadas às áreas com declividade acentuada e solos rasos, destacando-se Cupania vernalis e Trichilia claussenii em ambientes menos alterados e Luehea divaricata e Sebastiania commersoniana em ambientes mais susceptíveis às interferências.

ABSTRACT This study intended to analyze the presence of clusters in the vegetation of Seasonal Deciduous Forest remnants, characterized as a concave enclave, on steep sandy soil, among the region's characteristic fields. Shrub and tree specimens with CBH (circumference at breast height) ≥ 15 cm were sampled in two size classes. In class I (CBH ≥ 30 cm) specimen sampling, we used fourteen 20 x 100 m plots, divided into sub-plots (10 x 10 m). Class II (15 ≤ CBH < 30 cm) specimens were observed in 70 sub-portions. We used the TWINSPAN program to analyze the clusters, which indicated two well-defined clusters in class I (G1 and G2) and one relatively homogenous cluster in class II (understorey). There were Trichilia claussenii, Cupania vernalisand Crysophyllum marginatum indicator species in the G1 cluster; and Luehea divaricata and Sebastiania commersoniana in the G2 cluster. Regarding to horizontal structure, these species were among the three most important ones in both clusters. In the understorey, the most important species were Actinostemon concolor, Trichilia claussenii, Trichilia elegans, Eugenia rostrifolia andSorocea bonplandii. Since these species prevail in the tree vegetation, they are fundamental to stabilize hillsides, considering that they are adapted to steep and shallow soil areas, pointing out the Cupania vernalis and Trichilia claussenii in less modified environments and the Luehea divaricata and Sebastiania commersoniana in environments more susceptible to interference.

Este estudo objetivou entender a estrutura e a dinâmica de Eugenia involucrata DC. em remanescente de Floresta Estacional Subtropical, visando a avaliar o seu potencial de coleta de sementes. Para a caracterização da espécie, realizou-se um inventário de forma sistemática, em três anos consecutivos, partindo da demarcação de 14 parcelas de 20 × 100 m, as quais foram divididas em subparcelas, para avaliação de classes de tamanho (altura > 30 cm), em diferente intensidade amostral. Paralelamente, estudou-se a chuva de sementes e a fenologia da espécie, em árvores matrizes potenciais para coleta de sementes. A floração e a frutificação da espécie ocorreram em setembro e novembro, respectivamente, com baixo índice de sincronia. A Eugenia involucrata é uma espécie que ocorre de forma discreta no remanescente estudado em termos de estrutura e dinâmica, requerendo grandes esforços para coleta de sementes.

The purpose of this study was to understand the structure and dynamics of Eugenia involucrata DC. in the remaining of Subtropical Seasonal Forest to evaluate its seeds collection potential. In order to characterize the species, we systematically carried out an inventory for three consecutive years with the marking of 14 lots measuring 20 × 100 m, which were divided into sub-lots so that we could evaluate size classes (height > 30 cm) at different sample intensities. Concurrently, we studied the species seed rain and phenology using potential parent trees for seed collection. The flowering and fruiting of the species occurred in September and November, respectively, with low rate of synchrony. Eugenia involucrata is a species that occurs discretely in the remnant forest studied in terms of structure and dynamics, requiring great efforts to collect seeds.

RESUMO Diante da perda da biodiversidade e do habitat natural decorrentes da fragmentação das florestas, surge a necessidade de alternativas que possibilitem a recuperação desses ambientes. Assim, este estudo objetivou obter informações sobre o potencial dos mecanismos de regeneração natural (chuva de sementes, banco de sementes do solo, banco de plântulas e regeneração natural estabelecida) em um remanescente de Floresta Estacional Decidual, visando à conservação e recuperação destes ecossistemas. O estudo foi realizado de forma sistemática, a partir da demarcação de 14 unidades amostrais de 2.000 m², dentro das quais foram selecionadas, aleatoriamente, 70 subparcelas onde foram avaliados os mecanismos de regeneração. A chuva de sementes foi avaliada durante um ano, com base no material obtido mensalmente a partir de coletores. Para o estudo do banco de sementes foram tomadas amostras de solo, com uso de um gabarito de ferro com 25x25x5 cm de dimensões, monitoradas durante 7 meses mediante germinação das sementes. A regeneração natural foi avaliada em duas classes: banco de plântulas e regeneração natural estabelecida, onde foram identificados e medidos indivíduos com h≥30 cm e DAP<5 cm. A chuva de sementes apresentou densidade média de 1350 sementes.m-² na área, dentre as quais se observou 73 espécies, predominantemente, arbóreas. No banco de sementes do solo, foram observadas 108 espécies, sendo 74% herbáceas. No banco de plântulas foram encontradas 48 espécies, sendo estas esciófilas e heliófilas, já na regeneração estabelecida foram encontradas 37 espécies, em sua maioria esciófilas. Concluiu-se que as espécies com maior potencial para perpetuar na área estudada foram Gymnanthes concolor, Sorocea bonplandii, Eugenia rostrifolia, Trichilia claussenii, Trichilia elegans e Dasyphyllum spinescens, sendo as mesmas indicadas para enriquecimento. Já as espécies Myrocarpus frondosus, Cupania vernalis, Nectandra megapotamica e Syagrus rommanzoffian apresentam certa restrição, dependendo de tratamentos silviculturais na floresta para garantir sua perpetuação na área.

ABSTRACT Due to the loss of biodiversity and natural habitat because of the forests fragmentation, it is the needed to find alternatives that allow the recovery of these environments. Thus, this study aimed to obtain information about the potential of natural regeneration mechanisms (seed rain, soil seed bank, seedling bank and established natural regeneration) in a seasonal deciduous forest fragment in Santa Maria - RS state, in order to conserve and to recover these ecosystems. The study was conducted in a systematic way, having as a point of departure the demarcation of 14 sampling plots of 2000 sq m. From those plots, 70 subplots were randomly selected to evaluate the natural regeneration mechanisms. The seed rain was evaluated during one year based on the material that was monthly collected and analyzed from the collectors. To the study of the soil seed bank, soil samplings of 25cmx25cmx5cm were taken and the collected material was monitored during 7 months, observing the seed germination. The natural regeneration was evaluated in two classes: seedling bank and established natural regeneration, where individuals h ≥ 30 cm and DBH ≤ 5 cm were identified and measured. The seed rain presented medium density of 1350 seeds m-², in which 73 species, predominantly arboreal, were observed. In the soil seed bank, 108 species were observed, in which 74 % were herbaceous. In the seedling bank, 48 species were found and they were heliophilous and sciaphilous species, while in the established natural regeneration, 37 species were found, prevailing sciaphilous. This study concluded that the species with the greatest potential to perpetuate in the studied area were Gymnanthes concolor, Soroceae bonplandii, Eugenia rostrifolia, Trichilia claussenii, Trichilia elegans and Dasyphylum spinescens, and they are highly indicated to the enrichment of the area. The species Myrocarpus frondosus, Cupania vernalis, Nectandra megapotamica and Syagrus rommanzoffiana showed certain restriction, depending on the silvicultural treatments in the forest to assure their perpetuation in the area.
